McGuinness selected for two student AVS awards
Emily McGuinness received top student awards at both the divisional and international level of AVS. She was awarded the Thin Film Division’s James Harper Award based on a “TED Talk” style presentation. In her presentation, she explored the more familiar system of tie dyed t-shirts to teach about the different thermodynamic and kinetic parameters in her research on vapor phase infiltration. She also won one of the top student awards for AVS overall (2020 AVS Dorothy M. and Earl S. Hoffman Award) for “excellence in research and academic record.” For both of these awards, she was chosen as a finalist (one of four for the Harper Award and one of eight for the Hoffman Award) based on a written application and then judged by a panel of experts on the quality of her research.
